Is Your Kid A Picky Eater?

Is Your Kid A Picky Eater?

Are you a mom struggling to get your picky eater to eat anything other than chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese? You're not alone. When you're up against a picky eater, it can feel like the only option is to give in. However, there are some simple ways that your family can expand their horizons when it comes to food and gets the nutrition they need.

Here are some tips on how to deal with picky eating.

1. Offer your child a variety of healthy foods

One of the best things you can do for your picky eater is to offer a variety of healthy foods. The more food options they have in their diet, the less chance there is that one particular dish will be refused altogether! It's also important to make sure what we feed our kids meets all those essential nutrient requirements and tastes good, too.

2. Get creative with food – try adding herbs, spices, or sauces to make it more appealing

One of the most common reasons that children refuse to eat anything is when it's not their favourite flavour. So, if you're struggling with a picky eater, try getting creative and adding some herbs or spices in order to make food more appealing!

3. Make sure they are hungry before you offer them food

When you're trying to get your picky eater to eat something, it's important that they are actually hungry. Make sure not just offer them any old thing because if this doesn't work, then there will be no reason for them even considering eating what was offered!

4. Try using smaller plates so that the amount of food on their plate is not overwhelming

When you are trying to get your child to eat more food, it can be hard when they only want a small amount. One idea would be giving them smaller plates so that each bite counts and the size of their plate isn't overwhelming for them. Some kids have trouble eating fast enough with two or three things on there at once!

5. Don't give up! It can take time for kids to learn about new foods and figure out what they like best

Every child has their own preferences, so it's important not to give up on them! Your picky eater might just be trying out different food groups until they find the ones that make him or her happy.

The key here is patience; don't force-feed your son/daughter something because you think he needs X instead of Y if he doesn’t want either one - let them explore at their pace and try new things when wished (or possibly even demand!).

6. Be patient - don't force them to eat something if they are truly not interested in it

No child wants to be dining-ally forced into eating something they do not like. Patience is key here, as it's important that your kids experiment with different foods, so their palette can expand and develop a taste for more things in addition to being able to make healthy food choices on his/her own!

If you've tried these tips but still have concerns about your child's diet or weight gain, consult with a pediatrician who specializes in children's health issues. They will be able to provide additional guidance on how to keep your kids healthy, while also getting them more interested in trying new foods.

The most important thing is not to give up. If you keep offering healthy food and continue to make it a positive experience, your child will eventually try new foods. Offer small portions of the new food in combination with old favourites, so that they develop an appetite for both types of cuisine. It takes time, but patience is key when working through picky eating issues!
